On April 15th 1850, San Francisco city and county was established. This came at the cost of the indigenous Ohlone tribes of California who thrived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 10,000 years prior. The Ohlone lived and worked together and did not view themselves as a singles but as a unified group. The members of these various tribes interacted freely with one another.
After California entered into the Union in 1850, the state government perpetrated massacres against the Ohlone people. Many of the leaders of these massacres were rewarded with positions in state and federal government. These massacres have been described as genocide
Now, less than 100 years after the demise of the Ohlone people, April 15th 2022 could be the beginning of the end for communities of color that still exist in San Francisco.
This Friday on April 15th 415Day we are bringing our San Francisco pride and paying homage to all Black & Brown led community organizations, POC residents, and non-POC allies for all their hard work, dedication in the fight to support our communities from redistricting tragedies.
Because advocating for, protecting, magnifying, and supporting the legacy of Black & Brown communities in San Francisco is always the right thing to do.
We must keep all of the Black Communities Whole in this city D11, D10, D5, & D6 the work continues…
